The ISGOTT & SIGTTO Requirements for Tanker/Oil & Gas Terminal Safe Operations Course gives marine, terminal, and oil and gas professionals a comprehensive, structured understanding of the international frameworks, safety standards, and operational requirements that govern safe tanker and terminal operations — covering ISGOTT in its latest version, SIGTTO, IMO conventions, SIRE inspections, and the full ship/shore interface safety framework.
Safe tanker and terminal operations depend on a thorough understanding of the regulatory frameworks, hazard management principles, and operational procedures that protect personnel, assets, and the environment across every stage of cargo transfer. From petroleum hazards, gas detection, and static electricity management, through enclosed space entry, cargo operations, and emergency shutdown systems, to LNG and LPG handling, ship/shore communications, and emergency response the depth of knowledge required is significant.
This course addresses that knowledge systematically moving through the four parts of ISGOTT and the five chapters of SIGTTO gas carrier and terminal operations ensuring delegates understand not just what the requirements are, but why they exist and how to apply them in real operational environments.
This course is built for professionals who are accountable for tanker and terminal safety and want the regulatory knowledge, operational understanding, and practical confidence to meet those responsibilities at the highest professional standard.
The ISGOTT & SIGTTO Requirements for Tanker/Oil & Gas Terminal Safe Operations Course is designed to develop comprehensive knowledge of the international regulatory frameworks, safety management systems, and operational procedures governing tanker and terminal operations from petroleum hazard management and shipboard systems through to LNG and LPG handling and ship/shore interface safety.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
The ISGOTT & SIGTTO Requirements for Tanker/Oil & Gas Terminal Safe Operations Course is designed for marine, terminal, and oil and gas professionals who are responsible for or involved in the safe operation of tankers and oil and gas terminals and who need a thorough, working knowledge of ISGOTT and SIGTTO requirements.
This course is suitable for:
The ISGOTT & SIGTTO Requirements for Tanker/Oil & Gas Terminal Safe Operations Course is delivered through a structured, chapter-by-chapter learning approach that systematically covers the full content of ISGOTT Parts 1 through 4 and SIGTTO Chapters 1 through 10 — ensuring delegates develop an authoritative, integrated understanding of both documents and how they apply to real tanker and terminal operations.
Each day is structured around a defined section of ISGOTT or SIGTTO — with regulatory content connected to operational application through case-based discussion and practical scenario analysis throughout.

Common questions about our training courses
This course is designed for terminal operators, ship officers, marine superintendents, port authority professionals, HSE specialists, LNG and LPG terminal professionals, and vetting and inspection personnel who need a comprehensive, authoritative understanding of ISGOTT and SIGTTO requirements. It is suitable for both experienced professionals formalising their regulatory knowledge and those newer to tanker and terminal operations who need a structured, complete foundation in international safety standards.
Enclosed space entry is covered within the shipboard operations module — addressing ISGOTT requirements for enclosed space entry safety management and authorisation, hazard identification, atmosphere testing, general precautions, rescue and evacuation procedures, and respiratory protective equipment. Delegates leave with the regulatory knowledge and practical understanding to ensure enclosed space entry operations are managed in full compliance with ISGOTT requirements — one of the highest-risk activities in tanker operations.
The Ship/Shore Safety Checklist is addressed within Day 3 as a core ISGOTT Part 4 requirement — covering the composition and purpose of the checklist, pre-arrival and pre-berthing information exchange, pre-transfer conference requirements, and the procedures for completing and signing off the checklist before cargo operations begin. Delegates develop a thorough understanding of what the checklist is designed to achieve and the operational discipline required to use it as an effective safety tool rather than a procedural formality.
Day 2 covers ISGOTT Part 1 hazard management in full — including flammability, LEL and UEL, hydrocarbon toxicity, gas detection systems, static electricity principles and precautions, fire protection theory and systems, and the human factor considerations built into ISGOTT's risk management framework. Delegates develop a thorough understanding of why these hazards are present in tanker and terminal environments and what ISGOTT requires to manage them effectively.
Day 3 covers ISGOTT Part 3 in full — including marine terminal administration, limiting conditions for operations, cargo transfer equipment including marine loading arms and emergency shutdown systems, vapour emission control, terminal fire protection, and emergency preparedness including spill response plans, evacuation routes, and emergency exercises. Delegates develop a comprehensive understanding of what ISGOTT requires from terminal operators across every aspect of safe terminal management.
Day 5 covers SIGTTO Chapters 6 through 10 — including SIGTTO cargo handling procedures for loading, the loaded voyage, reliquefaction plant operation, LNG boil-off as fuel, discharging, and ship-to-ship transfer. Delegates also develop an understanding of cargo measurement and calculation procedures, shore versus ship measurement, and the cargo documentation requirements that govern LNG and LPG custody transfer — making this day particularly relevant for terminal professionals and gas trading personnel.
